The 10th European Conference on African Studies
25–28 June 2025 | Prague, Czech Republic
We are pleased to invite you to the 10th edition of the European Conference on African Studies (ECAS),
taking place from 25 to 28 June 2025 in the beautiful city of Prague. Hosted for the first time in a
post-communist Visegrad country, this major event is organized by the Czech Association for African
Studies
(CAAS) in collaboration with the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies (AEGIS).
Conference Theme: African, Afropean, Afropolitan Belongings
This year’s theme focuses on the diverse ways in which African and African-descended communities define,
express, and experience identity and belonging—whether on the continent or in the diaspora. The
conference
will explore how these identities are formed and articulated across historical, social, political,
and
cultural contexts.
What to Expect:
More than 250 academic panels covering a wide range of disciplines including history, anthropology,
literature, development, politics, environment, health, and more.
Keynote lectures and plenary sessions by renowned scholars.
Engaging roundtable discussions and networking opportunities.
A vibrant cultural program including film screenings, art exhibits, and performances.
The ELIAS (European Librarians in African Studies) 2025 meeting on 24 June at the Náprstek Museum.
